Here are some of Maura's successes in addressing the needs of local business
Addressing Power Outages
- She brought local utilities to the table, and got them to upgrade their electrical systems in the Centre St. business districts of Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury, to end the annoying and costly outages that plagued business owners in both communities. Customers in Jamaica Plain are already enjoying the more reliable power supply that resulted from her efforts. The final customers on the West Roxbury upgrade are slated to go live by the end of the summer.
Bringing Business Into the Neighborhoods
- Maura persuaded what was then BayBank to set up a branch in Jackson Square, bringing Jackson Square residents their first neighborhood bank branch in years. That branch is now Fleet Bank. She was also instrumental in helping get Stop & Shop to reopen in Jackson Square (bringing a major supermarket back to the area), while working with local merchants to ensure their businesses remained strong.
An advocate for Small Businesses
- Small business owners know they can count on Maura for assistance opening, expanding or moving their businesses. Just ask Phil Paik, owner of the JP Seafood Cafe, who joins other local business owners in saying, "Maura works for us!"
