Working Hard for Education

Here are just some of Maura's accomplishments and positions on Education

Pilot Schools

  • Maura was instrumental in the plan to create the hugely successful Patrick Lyndon Pilot School ,which has been called "the Boston Latin of the elementary school system". The Lyndon School pilot set a precedent for easing enrollment guidelines, and marks her continued commitment to offering parents more and better educational choices. The Lyndon School is the only comprehensive K-8 school in Jamaica Plain or West Roxbury.

Quality Programs and Facilities

  • As a supporter of quality neighborhood schools, Maura demands excellence in academic programs and quality school facilities for our children. Mauras continued efforts will help present parents with the best and broadest academic opportunities from which to choose for their children.
  • Our kids can only learn if their school buildings and environments are healthy. As a result, Maura is a leader in the fight for healthy indoor air quality, and sponsored and passed an ordinance to improve indoor air quality standards in city buildings and schools, like Jamaica Plains Agassiz School. She also helped secure funding to beautify the playground and surrounding grounds at the Kennedy School in Jamaica Plain.

Educational Spending

  • Maura supports increased funding for both kindergarten and adult education.
