Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 - At-Large Boston City Councillor Maura Hennigan called upon Jeff Conley, Executive Director of the Boston Finance Commission, to conduct an independent investigation into the $240,000 settlement in the case between the commissioner of inspectional services, Kevin Joyce, and the firing of his administrative assistant, Julie Fothergill.
Hennigan was responding to an article in the Herald today, "It's time to clean up the Joyce-run cesspool." In her letter to Director Conley and the City of Boston, Hennigan said, "It is important to show the public that in both good and bad economic times, the City of Boston is safeguarding their hard earned tax dollars in an efficient and transparent manner."
To assist Director Conley in his investigation, Hennigan also called upon the City of Boston to provide a full disclosure of the depositions in the case to assist his agency in its investigation. "The main goal of this request is to maintain public confidence and assure the taxpayers that their interests are being protected and that the integrity of city government is preserved," said Hennigan.
